Chew On This, It's Licorice Day [VIDEO]

It’s chewy, it’s sweet and it’s fun to eat. It comes in all sorts of shapes or long and stringy. It’s licorice, and today is the candy’s day. But actually it’s a plant.

Most of us eat it as candy and it’s simply something to satisfy our sweet tooth.

Actually licorice is a herb and a member of the pea family. The acid extracted from the licorice root is fifty times sweeter than sugar and is used as a flavoring in food, tobacco and of course licorice candy.

Licorice has been used for medicinal purposes and in the fight against prostate and breast cancer.
