Barrel Aged Peoples Porter ~ Foothills Brewing | Beer Ambassador ...

by Kristyn Lier ~ Beer Ambassador

Appearance:

smoky peaty liquid obsidian with garnet streaks along the sides and bottom. Fluffy khaki head resembles freshly frothed espresso, fading soft and slow. Swirls creamy and with a smidge of fuzzy lace.

Nose:

rich decadent chocolates up front – big, sultry, and velveteen. Some more bitter black chocolate notes in the back which fades into freshly drawn espresso. Cigar leaf weaves in and out. Black licorice root. Vanilla and caramel mingle harmoniously. Gentle tease of bourbon spice in the back.

Palate:

wow! Smooth creamy chocolate that is milky in the middle and darkly bitter in the back. Spicy bourbon notes weave in and out, tickling my tongue at the end of each quaff. My breath is warm, spicy, and oaky. Cooked and cooled and bourbon spiked caramel. Black root leads into burnt black licorice root. Oily cigar leaf. Grows a subtle yet pervasive sweet smoky peaty chocolaty black licorice ménage.

Final Thoughts:

this particular beer was a hand bottle obtained from the fine folks at the Charleston Beer Exchange. Bottled on 10/12/2011, the bottle was labeled, cap dipped in wax for extra oxygen protection, she drank as fresh as if I had been there savoring a glass direct from the tap. Delicious! Thanks sis!
