Spring has certainly sprung, and with the spring comes new life whether it be in our community gardens, flowerbeds, homes and most importantly ourselves. As we believe in recreating your life throughout the seasons, spring is the perfect time to cleanse the soul.

For a moment let’s take it back a couple of months. Remember those New Year’s Resolutions you made? Well props to you if you have stuck through them during the cold winter months. And if you’re one of the hundreds of people who make resolutions but don’t have the time or energy to stick to them, we’ve creatively crafted a plan to assist you with your spring-cleaning, inside and out. With these couple tips, you’ll be able to do a little spring cleaning to cleanse your body and home.

It’s time to kick off your boots and sweater, grab a few hefty boxes and get ready to de-clutter. Clean your home from top to bottom to not only de-clutter, but to donate to those in need. No matter where you start, you’ll add a fresh new look to your home as you get rid of unnecessary trinkets that keep collecting dust in your home. One of the general rules of thumb when donating clothes (or actually a life lesson my nonna passed down to me) is if you haven’t worn something for over a year, you probably won’t wear it again.

After you’ve donated a box or two, you’ll be rejuvenated and ready to tackle cleansing your body. Kick start your plan by cleansing the colon, liver, kidneys, and skin. One of the very best ways to cleanse your body is to drink tea. Tea leaves are said to prevent cell damage, strengthen your bones and replaces fluids all the while containing antioxidants.

Here are a few teas that contribute to your well-being:

Peppermint: This is the perfect cure for an upset stomachs and helps with digestion.

Licorice Root: Drinking licorice root tea helps soothe sore throats, and promotes skin health. It also protects the liver, aids in digestion and works as an antidepressant.

Lemon Grass: Aids in digestion, stomach upsets and headaches.

Ginger Root: Not only does ginger relieve nausea and helps with digestion, it also creates a healthy peripheral circulation in your body as it warms your hands and feet.

Black Pepper: With detoxifying agents, black pepper absorbs nutrients, is an antioxidant and stabilizes water in the body

Drinking any of these teas will start you on a whole new rejuvenation plan. Many cleansing teas will include at least four herbs with an array of more than these listed here. As you embark on this cleansing of your soul, be sure to check with your health practitioner for guidance, or use the Chopra Dosha Quiz, to see what specific needs your body entails. As you drink the various teas for each health benefit be mindful of how your body reacts to them, if you are feeling like you’re heading into a slump you may need to readjust the teas.
